Coverage notes
Working edition 1.0 · November 1, 2026
About these examples
The guide was prepared from the public StormTrak application and its product documentation on November 1, 2026. Screenshots use Norman, Oklahoma, as a public demonstration location. They show weather from that review, not current conditions.
Observed means the named interaction or state was seen during the guide review. Source-documented means the instructions were checked against product documentation, but that result scenario was not reproduced. A working launcher does not establish that every downstream result has been tested.
The review used a desktop browser and a 390-pixel-wide phone layout. It did not establish physical iPhone or Android behavior. This table records documentation coverage; it is not a complete application test. The two teaching diagrams use invented examples and are labeled accordingly.
Live application observations
| System | Interaction and observed result | Evidence / limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Location and layout | Searched Norman, OK; heading identified an approximate city center. Hid and reopened panels and menu. Hid the pre-existing historical tracking window without stopping or deleting it. | Public-location context in cropped map captures. Device location and destructive clear/forget controls were not used. |
| Measure | Activated ruler, clicked two points and finished the measurement. The map displayed 29 mi / 47 km and a dashed path. Switched tools to clear. | images/measure-distance.jpg. Multi-segment routes and all keyboard variants remain source-documented. |
| Drawing | Opened palette, added Practice annotation text with Enter, drew a cyan arrow, and used Undo to remove both. | images/drawing-tools.jpg. Freehand pen, circle, every width/color, tablet pen and Clear were not exercised. |
| Storm ETA | Activated the tool and clicked a point outside a suitable warning. The UI requested a storm position inside a warning. | images/eta-unavailable.jpg. No positive arrival, stationary or behind-storm result was available in this session. |
| StormTrak Impact | Activated and clicked outside a suitable warning. The UI requested a tornado or severe-thunderstorm warning. | images/impact-unavailable.jpg. A populated town table, warning motion and historical transition await real conditions or labeled replay. |
| Live Observations | Opened KOUN observations, inspected report/check times and distance. Calm wind appeared as a reported value while unavailable gust and other fields remained dashes. | images/live-observations.jpg. Different station data and manual refresh were not exercised. |
| Wind / Temp History | Changed 12H to 6H. Report count changed from 30 to 15, and the average wind summary changed; restored 12H. | Raw station-history capture. Table and report-slider interactions remain pending. |
| Local Threat Index | Opened floating window; inspected zero/Holding, 100 mi radius, baseline, source legend and incomplete-total explanation. Closed window. | images/local-threat-index.jpg. Radius changes and nonzero/incomplete time-series scenarios remain pending. |
| Forecast | Opened NWS panel and read period times. Phone Forecast showed seven supplied days despite the desktop 5 Day Forecast label; expanded Today and read full day/night wording. | images/five-day-forecast.jpg, images/phone-forecast.jpg. Pop-out and all detailed hourly controls remain pending. |
| SignalCast | Opened Auto panel; observed no cells in that automatic view. Inspected a restored historical watch with nine saved observations and its old timestamps. Preserved it. | images/signalcast.jpg. New watch creation, export, stop/delete and current-storm change alerts were not exercised. |
| SmartSite and Camera | Opened both panels and read modes and state. SmartSite explained the single-station requirement while National radar was selected. | images/smartsite.jpg. Actual automatic station handoff and follow-mode behavior remain source-documented. |
| Radar playback | Selected National radar, exposed dock by hiding the overlapping tracking window, pressed Play, observed Pause state, then paused on frame 1/7 at 8:15 AM. Next advanced the slider; Latest returned to frame 7 at 8:45 AM. | images/radar-playback.jpg. Historical frame showed partial radar coverage; blank areas were explicitly not an all-clear. All history lengths/speeds and every imagery product were not tested. |
| Level II / Live sweep | Selected L2 reflectivity and observed TLX scan time and live-sweep status, including scanning-higher state. | Raw radar-3d and phone map captures. No claim of testing every sweep phase or meteorological feature. |
| 3D and Studio | Loaded on-map Oklahoma City volume, opened Studio, viewed Points, switched to Volume controls, returned to Points, closed and turned 3D off. | images/radar-3d-studio.jpg. Active convective interpretation, all rendering modes, loop and physical-device performance remain pending. |
| Model comparison | Opened current HRRR, NAM Nest and GFS table with distinct runs and forecast horizons. Read expanded metric choices and current source help on three-hour accumulation. | Raw model-comparison capture. Metric/run switching and every forecast layer remain pending. |
| Warning explorer | Opened default distance view and changed to All received warnings; zero active severe warnings were shown. | Raw warning-explorer capture. This explains unavailable positive ETA/Impact examples; it does not verify active-warning details or speech. |
| Hurricane tracker | Opened tool; latest feed reported no active tropical cyclones. | Recorded visible state. Active advisory, track, cone and forecast-point interactions remain pending. |
| SPC outlook | Opened controls and inspected Day 1 categories, issue/valid times, legend and official link. | Product/day switching and all layers remain pending. |
| Advanced analysis | Opened Storm layers, Storm observations, Communities in the path and Compare a map point. Selected NOAA cell 41236 in Storm observations; inspected 8:38 AM observation, east 9 mph motion, 1% any-severe probability and hazard/hail/lightning fields. | Raw storm-observations and detail captures. Probability scope explicitly applied to the storm in the next hour. Positive community/temporary-point results remain pending. |
| Sky | Opened panorama, toggled Object names on/off, ran Next 12 hours in 30 s, observed clear-sky time-preview labels, returned Back to now and then Radar. | images/sky-preview.jpg. Pop-out, actual visibility and all astronomical controls remain pending. |
| Phone layout | Opened Radar, Now, Forecast, Alerts and More at 390 × 844; centered map, read alert state and expanded forecast day. Desktop-only map tools and 3D were absent as documented. | images/phone-forecast.jpg. Initial resize inherited an empty Forecast/More surface; reloading at phone width restored content. This unresolved resize transition is recorded rather than called fixed. |
| Voice and push | Read visible controls and setup descriptions without enabling them or granting permissions. | Delivery, audio output, subscription and operating-system background behavior remain unverified. |
Limitations that affect the manual
There were no suitable received tornado/severe-thunderstorm warnings for a positive ETA or Impact walkthrough, and no active tropical cyclone for a cone walkthrough. Those chapters describe source-documented workflows with explicit limits. They do not present an unavailable result as a tested success. The selected 3D volume had sparse echoes; a richer storm-volume example would improve teaching.
Desktop-to-phone resizing initially left Forecast and More empty in the existing page session. A page reload at the phone width restored both. The guide records that observation; application code was not changed and the transition is not claimed fixed. Physical iOS/Android touch, rotation, graphics and background delivery were not tested.
Some playback controls initially sat beneath an existing floating tracking window. Hiding that window made the controls accessible and playback then changed state and time as expected. The historical radar frame reported partial tile coverage. This is preserved in the evidence and is not described as complete radar coverage.
Back to the beginning ↑Next illustration priorities
- Storm ETA with a real warning, including its motion source, selected storm point, target and result wording.
- Impact with its town table, distance and timing, followed by its historical state.
- A new current-storm watch with successive observations and an exported example history.
- Communities in the path and temporary point comparison for a selected moving storm.
- An active tropical advisory with track points and cone context.
- A precipitation-rich 3D scan with paired reflectivity/velocity views.
These should use real, dated source data or a clearly identified controlled replay. They should never be fabricated screenshots labeled as live observations.
